Toxicity

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Last night I was talking to my dear friend/neighbor Liz about my weird tight chest/achy body/feverish body. She told me that it sounded a lot like anxiety.

"Emotion's are tangible... even if you're not aware of them, negative thoughts/feelings are toxic to your body."

I agree with Liz. Here's why:

When she first said "anxiety" I was like "psh! No! I'm not stressed out about ANYTHING."
And then I realized that that wasn't exactly a good sign. It was a sign that I was probably ignoring something.
My house mess was piling up, I'm away from home from 9-5 goinggoinggoing and I have an extremely close relative going through the pains of the beginnings of breast cancer. I haven't had time to sit and FEEL all of my mental/emotional stress, so my body has been releasing it via insane PMS, pain, and now this weird sickness.
Now I knew the core issue of my body break-down and now I could fix it.

So I did some yoga. I'm not a yogi by any means, but I do find simple yoga movements at night and in the morning to be EXTREMELY effective.

I sat in this position for a long time:

And it really helped. I'm feeling better. I mean, I still feel a bit like what I felt yesterday, but an hour of deep breathing and meditation isn't going to get rid of every toxic emotion right?

Anyway, I'm not sure why I'm sharing all this.
Just feeling better, I guess.

  1. Ummm yeah. If you ever want to know about crazy things that undetected anxiety can do to your body, talk to me. It's totally true! Massage therapy was what finally calmed my body down... You should suggest that to Scott. ;-)

  2. I'm glad you're starting to feel better, and that yoga/relaxation helped. After we talked, I thought "I hope this isn't something way serious that yoga would make worse." But I'm just a hypochondriac. I hope you find joy and peace in restoring your mind/body/spirit to balance.

  4. It is crazy what stress and anxiety can do to you. My mom was in and out of the hospital, seeing neurologists, and had every test imaginable because she was having convulsing seizures and then passing out. She was unable to work and after every 'seizure' she was out of it for the rest of the day. It was taking over her life. After about 4 months they finally realized it was stress. Now whenever she feels it coming on she walks away from her work and lets God calm her down.
Ill keep you in my prayers I hope the best for you :) Give it to God
