It's raining.

It's raining outside and I am feeling nostalgic for Washington state. Have you ever been there? I lived there until I was 16 when we moved to Boise, Idaho. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Boise. It's where I feel the most at home and the most myself. I like that it is just conservative enough to live comfortably as a little Mormon housewife without being judged, but liberal enough that no one is really judging anyone anyway.

But this is not about Boise. It's about Seattle. I didn't live in the middle of Seattle or anything (only in outskirts like the Hilltop of Tacoma and the beautiful Gig Harbor) but I still love it. That's where I first fell in love with Tino Martinez and had my first heart break when he was traded to the Yankees. 

I have a vivid memory of begging my mom to buy me this weird flute/turtle shell thing at Pike's Place and she didn't because it was ridiculously priced. She bought flowers though, because they are priced ridiculously low. Giant bouquets of beautiful flowers for five bones. And the air in Washington smells like salt water. Okay, downtown Seattle does NOT smell like salt water, but you get my point.

People who don't live there loooove to talk about the rain.
 "Oh it rains too much, if you live there you'll get depressed."
I'm way more depressed when it rains in Idaho or Utah. When it rains here, the sky turns gray, and the road turns gray, and everything is gray. But when it rains in western Washington, everything gets BRIGHTER. The trees are a more vibrant green, the sound is a brighter gray. And no one is walking around complaining about the rain, because they are used to the drizzle- it doesn't ruin their day.

My point is, I miss Seattle. Not just Seattle-Seattle but western Washington in general.
So I made a tote bag about it.
